The business opening sequence

We chose this film to comment on its opening sequence as there is allot of action going on in the scene and as there is a lot to talk about it uses lots of different camera techniques, has a lot of spoken thought which helps to set the tone for the film.

To open the film there is a black screen and a voice from Frankie (Danny Dyer) who is the main actor. It then cuts in to a street and you get some retro music from the era of the film and you then see two men Frankie & Charlie (Tamer Hassan) running through a street in the Costa Del in Spain. You see them running through and you see them running past two kids and then see them hide their guns and show them again once they have passed. Once they arrive of the house of the people they are after they are met by a man sat in a chair with some form of revolver and two other men and his wife or girlfriend, they then break into a brawl charlie then hits the main guy over the head with a gun and ends up wrestling with the lady. Charlie starts to shout at the two men on the sofa one has a syringe in his hand at this point Frankie (Danny Dyer) is looking distressed and Charlie kicks the stereo too cut out the music.

Titles- The titles used at the start are rather basic it shows a black screen and the various titles come up on a rather basic font in white and then fills in with a blue colour there is the names of the producer and director writer and things and it then changes to the opening scene.

Sound- The sound it this particular opening sequence uses a wide base of sound its starts with a voice over from Frankie (Danny Dyer) speaking about what his father said to him, it then goes into the music Planet Earth By Duran Duran. You then here various sounds from the scene such as the men kicking the door in and the shouting in the house and the fighting. The main song cuts out when Charlie kicks the stereo system and it cuts out when you notice the sound in the scene has gone from being diagetic to non-diagetic when they are in the house the scene ends with a gun shot and a freeze on the screen.

Camera work- The camera shots used are basic shots for example it starts with a long shot and the uses various common shots such as close-ups mid shots and panning shots etc.

Mise-en-scene- It is set in the Costa-Del in Spain you see them running through the street with a mountain in the background running through a typical Spanish village and the other location in the scene is in a small house. The costumes are typical 80's clothing that average people would wear. The lighting that meets the eye is natural light in the street and the light of the house in the house.
